Many printer manufacturers these days include within their toner cartridges a chip which estimates the toner level in the cartridge. When the chip tells the printer that the cartridge is empty, the printer will in many cases forbid further printing. This can be annoying when the owner can feel there is still toner left inside the cartridge. It also complicates refilling; you can often refill a cartridge for less than half the price of buying a new one, however if you were to refill one of these cartridges, it still would not work.. The solution is to reset the chip on the cartridge to read ‘full’ again, like it did when it was new. It turns out that this is straightforward if you have the right tool, and the tool can be purchased for not much more than the cost of a single toner cartridge.
